CNC Machines are amazing devices capable of running many production and manufacturing processes. If you have purchased your CNC machine brand new from a renowned sale centre, you can expect all parts to be quite reliable for years to come. But new or not, like every other machine, you will need to take many preventive maintenance and servicing options to keep your CNC machine running at top gear. Here are three of the simplest tips you can perform from time to time to keep your machine running at peak capacity.
Lubricate all moving parts
CNC machines have a lot of moving parts that must continue to operate with little or no resistance or friction. Feel free to generously grease and lubricate all moving parts to prevent wear and tear. Lubrication also ensures that all parts are moving at optimum speed and consequently means production is running at its peak. Ensure that you use the right type of grease and lubricating fluids to get the best results.
Maintain machine fluids
Along with constant lubrication, you will want to monitor your machine fluids to ensure that all lubricants and hydraulic fluids are not in shortage. As operation persists, these fluids will begin to deplete and require top-up on a regular basis. When trying to maintain these fluids, ensure that you do not overfill or under gauge as most machines have a minimum volume below which they will not run effectively. Shortage could also lead to machine knock and damage.
It is also important to monitor the frequency at which you replace or top-up your fluids. Although capacity and usage may differ, any machine that generally requires frequent fluid replacement or gauge may be indicative of a large problem. If you’re using frequently more fluid than you should, there may be a leak or an abnormal wear in some part of the machine.
Clean your machine
Hopefully, you have a lot of projects that keep your CNC machine on a regular basis. If this is the case with you, you can expect to have a lot of cnc machine tools and grime build up on your machine after each run. Another mistake many machinists make is always keeping their machines running. In the few periods where you do not have CNC-related tasks to run, you should try to shutdown your machine to allow cool-down and unnecessary running of electricity through it.
While it is important to perform most of the above tips from time to time, strive to imbibe other maintenance culture for your CNC machines on a day to day basis. Before firing up your machines, gauge the fluids. Ensure that you use the right tool set with it, lubricate frequently and clean your machine on a daily or project to project basis.
